On November 24, a deadly fire broke out in Urumqi, Xinjiang, detonating the largest protest since June 4th 33 years ago. People from many provinces and cities, as well as students from dozens of universities, gathered spontaneously to strongly oppose the CCP’s dynamic zeroing policy. They also put forward clear political demands such as “No nucleic acid, freedom”, “Communist Party step down”, and “Xi Jinping step down”.
On November 28, a Reuters reporter asked at a regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China: “Because the Chinese people are generally angry and frustrated with the Chinese authorities’ policy of eradicating the epidemic, is the Chinese government considering ending this policy, and if so, when? Will it end?”.
CCP spokesman Zhao Lijian frowned after listening to the question, then looked down at the document. After about 30 seconds, he asked the reporter to repeat the question again, but Zhao Lijian still looked down at the document, followed by another 15 seconds of silence. Afterwards, Zhao Lijian replied: “The relevant situation you mentioned is inconsistent with the facts. China has always been making relevant adjustments based on the actual situation in accordance with the general policy of dynamic clearing.”
The video of the question and answer was widely circulated on social media Twitter and China’s Weibo, but there is not a word in the official record of the official website of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Why is Zhao Lijian so embarrassed? Why does the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China not mention this question and answer? The reason is simple: because the CCP dare not admit the fact that there are large-scale popular protests. The CCP always claims that its dynamic zeroing policy has the cooperation and support of the Chinese people, and this nationwide protest has effectively exposed this outrageous lie.
Dynamic clearing made people complain. In fact, even the authorities know that dynamic zeroing is unsustainable and must be changed; it’s just that this approach comes from Xi Jinping’s “personal command and personal deployment” and comes from Xi Jinping’s willful will. Now it is necessary to correct the mistakes, and we must take Xi Jinping’s face into account, so we are also looking for a step down. Little did they know that the platform collapsed before the steps were paved.
Under the strong pressure of public protests, the CCP authorities headed by Xi Jinping had to face this embarrassing fact, quickly adjusted their epidemic prevention policies, and started to abandon the eradication. According to the South China Morning Post report on December 2, Xi Jinping told EU Council President Michel that the protests were mainly students who had been bruised during the three-year epidemic. Xi Jinping said the government would ease the lockdown.
Although the “people’s leader” is humiliated in front of the whole world, this is not the first time in the history of the Communist Party. The Communist Party has its own set of strong rhetoric, which is dedicated to defending the indefensible. Let’s take a look at what the report of the Politburo Standing Committee chaired by Xi Jinping on November 10 said. The report said that “the epidemic must be defended, the economy must be developed, and production must be safe”; At the same time, it is necessary to oppose and overcome formalism and bureaucracy, and correct practices such as “adding weight at every level” and “one size fits all”. You see, the Party Central Committee has mentioned several aspects, which means that no matter what goes wrong, it is the fault of the executors below. The Central Committee is always right, and the leaders are always right. This is like the general line of socialist construction proposed by Mao Zedong in 1958, “to build socialism more, faster, better, and less”. More, faster, better, less, every aspect has been mentioned, no matter what goes wrong, it is the fault of the executors below, the center is always right, and the leader is always right.
Back then, Mao Zedong’s three red flags of the general line, the Great Leap Forward, and the People’s Commune caused a catastrophe. This is how Lin Biao defended Mao Zedong. Lin Biao said that we made many mistakes in the previous stage of work because we did not follow Chairman Mao’s instructions; whatever we did well, we followed Chairman Mao’s instructions, and whatever we did not do well, we did not follow Chairman Mao’s instructions. It is conceivable that in the future, Xi Jinping and the CCP authorities will definitely use this method to defend themselves. On the one hand, they will boast and praise themselves; on the other hand, they will desperately blame those mistakes that cannot be denied. On the head of the local officials, they exonerated themselves completely in order to continue to claim greatness, glory, and rightness. We must expose and criticize this set of sophistry.
At the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee in 1978, Chen Yun criticized Mao Zedong for saying: “Mao Zedong is a man, not a god.” The implication is that humans make mistakes, but only God does not make mistakes. Similarly, Xi Jinping will also make mistakes. Xi Jinping is also a human being and not a god, and Xi Jinping should not enjoy the absolute power that only a god is entitled to. Even according to the position of a CCP conservative like Chen Yun, Xi Jinping should be pulled down from the altar.
